Oklahoma is famous throughout the world for its unique barite mineral formations that resemble a rose (locally called Rose Rocks). They're regarded as the world's most beautiful barite rosettes because of their rich, rust-red coloring, and their rounded barite 'petals' - a feature that scientists still do not fully understand!
To explain what this item is, and help you fully understand how cool it is, allow me to tell you a little about its backstory:
Barite Rose minerals (Rose Rocks) formed within the Permian-age Garber Sandstone, a large underground formation that runs through central Oklahoma. Back then, Oklahoma was a very different place, with shallow inland seas spread across the landscape. Over time, layers of sediment from the water were compressed and hardened, and the Rose Rocks became embedded within harder sandstone and concretionary material that surrounded them underground. After millions of years, elements like rain and wind caused the sandstone and concretion matrix to erode away, allowing the Rose Rocks to finally be freed!
So..
This 6x4" bag contains ~1 pound of natural sandstone and concretion matrix fragments that surrounded Oklahoma's Rose Rocks during their formation. These pieces were collected in areas where Rose Rocks are found, and the mix contains fascinating insight into the ancient geology of this area. You'll also find tiny barite rose formations, in a variety of different stages and types - like early crystal development and detailed clusters.
As an extra gift, I'll include a small Rose Rock and an info card that explains the scientific and cultural significance barite roses have in Oklahoma.
If you aren't into geology, there's still plenty of reasons why you'll love this mix! Use it for things like:
•Terrariums, fairy gardens, dioramas - for an earthy aesthetic
•Houseplants, cacti, and succulents - as a beneficial soil topper
•Crafts and creative projects - to add unique texture
•Decorative accents for your home or office - serves as a great conversation starter
•A fun and educational treasure hunt for all ages - each bag is unique
And each bag purchased supports education and conservation efforts that help protect Oklahoma's unique Rose Rock sites from destruction.. thank you!

Oklahoma's Rose Rocks are easily incorporated into a variety of special events: wedding favors, business meetings, classroom show-and-tell, dorm room ice-breakers, family reunions.. or anywhere you want to show off Oklahoma's unique treasures! I offer many options, including individual packaging to compliment your style or theme.. and Rose Rock info cards are always included! Let me know what you have in mind and I'll be happy to provide a special Rose Rock order that's perfect for you!
Barite Rose Rocks are moderately low on the Mohs scale (hardness level), and can be easily damaged if stored with other rocks (including other Rose Rocks). Store your roses individually with padding or bubble wrap to keep them safe.
And, to avoid fading, display them out of direct sunlight for extended periods of time.
My Native American husband's family owns land in Oklahoma county, and the Garber Sandstone Formation (where rose rocks are formed) runs right through the area. Given full permission (and extremely thankful), I collect the roses from their land!
In a world that's accustomed to e-commerce and dealing with packages all the time, I still believe that a package should be exciting, special, and fun. Every order is beautifully packaged with care - a service that I offer for free. Nature provides most of my products, keeping my overhead costs low, and I don't believe in charging more than what's fair. Packaging can vary, but here's a typical example: Your item is placed in its own gift box/bag before it goes into the shipping box, nestled in crinkle paper and gift tissue. I place a small envelope that contains a Rose Rock info card and my business card on top, then the box is sealed and on its way to you! I'd be happy to add a special touch, like a gift tag or card, just let me know! :)
